Erie,PA : Union City man dies in accidental shooting at home on December, Friday 1st 2017

A Union City man died Friday from a gunshot wound when a pistol he was carrying in his shoulder holster discharged while he was removing the gun, state police said.

Police said Nicholas J. Powell, 32, suffered a gunshot wound to his chest. Powell was taken to Titusville Hospital, where he died.

The incident occurred between 4:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. at Powell’s home in the 38500 block of Church Road in Bloomfield Township.

Police said Powell had returned home from hunting earlier in the day. Powell was carrying the pistol in a shoulder holster on his left side. When he went to remove the pistol, it discharged one bullet, hitting Powell in the chest, police said.
