Ramsey, NJ : Four people were hurt when a tire flew off a car and crashed through the windshield of a commuter bus in New Jersey on Monday morning on May 5th 2014
A tire crashed through the front windshield of a private commuter bus in New Jersey Monday morning.
The accident happened on the southbound roadway of Route 17 in Ramsey just after 7:30 a.m. The tire came off a 2009 Lexus, driven by an Oakland, New Jersey woman on the northbound roadway. It bounced over the center divider and into the driver's side windshield.
A 49-year old man from Rosendale, N.Y. who was sitting directly behind the bus driver sustained a severe head injury after the tire struck him. He is listed in critical condition.
He was airlifted to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson. Two other passengers and the bus driver sustained minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals.
The driver kept control of the bus and brought it to a safe stop on the side of the road.
The bus, run by Pine Hill Trailways, was en route to New York at the time with 52 people on board. Passengers were put on another bus and taken to Manhattan.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the Lexus.
