Catawba County, NC : Two people killed in single car crash on Friday October 3 2014.

Counselors were on scene at Bunker Hill High School after a single-car crash claimed the lives of two students. Investigators say the driver, Jacob Turner, lost control while turning on River Bend Road Friday night. The car rolled down an embankment, turned sideways and slammed into a line of trees. Tenth graders Justin Turner and Alec Sigmon were thrown from the car and killed. The other passengers included seniors Jessica Joy Sigmon and Chloe Alison Cordell. Alec's sister, Jessica Sigmon, was sitting in the front seat next to Turner. Both of them went to the hospital with bruises and broken arms, but have since been released. Senior Chloe Cordell, was also in the car and injured. She was hospitalized at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem with multiple injuries. Saturday night, the hospital said she was in fair condition. Troopers believe the car was going at least 90 mph and say the teens were not wearing seatbelts. The trooper says it's hard to say if the seatbelts would have saved their lives given the excessive speed. He did say that not wearing the seatbelts caused them to be ejected from the car. Students say they are leaning on each other for strength after five of their friends were involved in the deadly wreck. Stephanie Zepp, a sophomore at Bunker High School remembers her friends. "Justin always made us laugh and he would be the one to brighten your day and make you happy and Alec was the same way," she said. Sophomore Ben Loftin played baseball with Turner and was a long-time friend of Sigmon, "When I heard about it, I couldn't control my emotions." Troopers don't believe alcohol played a role in the accident, but officers took blood samples from the driver and seized three cell phones as part of the investigation.
