An Illinois woman died after being hit by an SUV late Tuesday in Walworth County, officials said.
The 54-year-old woman had left the nearby Ridge Hotel shortly before she was hit at about 11:25 p.m. by a 2001 Ford Expedition driven by a Genoa City man. Christopher Robiwtow, 44, immediately pulled over and waited for authorities, according to a news release from the Town of Geneva Police Department.
The woman, whose name was not released as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, may have stepped into the lane of traffic, Chief Steven Hurley said.
The portion of Highway 50 near Chapin Road was shut down for several hours while investigators reconstructed the scene. A Department of Transportation spokesperson said the highway reopened around 3:15 a.m.
