Waupun, WI : Man killed, teen injured in a two-car crash Saturday morning on Highway 26 near Waupun on August 23, 2014
A 58-year-old man was killed and a teen-age girl suffered serious injuries in a two-car crash Saturday morning on Highway 26 near Waupun, police said.
The man was heading south when he crossed into the northbound lane of traffic, striking another vehicle head on, according to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol. He was transported by ambulance to Waupun Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police withheld his identity pending notification of family members.
The 16-year-old girl driving the other car suffered life-threatening injuries. The girl — a Capron, Ill. resident whose name will not be released because she is a juvenile — was transported by helicopter to the University of Wisconsin hospital in Madison, where she remained in critical condition Saturday afternoon, the release says.
Police do not believe either driver was under the influence of alcohol. Both were wearing seatbelts. The crash, which remains under investigation, occurred half a mile north of Highway 151.
