Pocatello, ID : Investigation ongoing into crash that killed teen mom on Saturday, 3rd September 2016
Two teenage boys involved in a one-vehicle accident in Bingham County that claimed the life of a 16-year-old Firth girl have been released from the hospital.
The boys, ages 16 and 14, were transported to Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot following the rollover on Saturday morning.
Karla Nayeli Gomez-Pacheco died at the scene of the crash, which occurred just after 6 a.m. Saturday on Highway 39 near Springfield. She left behind a 10-month-old daughter named Melanie, who was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Melanie is safe with her grandparents in Firth.
Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland said the case remains under investigation and officers are working to determine who was driving.
Rowland said investigators are also waiting for the result of blood tests to determine if alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
According to police reports, the crash occurred when the car's driver drifted off the road and struck a driveway. The vehicle then rolled, authorities said.
Gomez-Pacheco and the two male teens were ejected from the vehicle. According to authorities, they were not wearing seat belts.
