Thibodaux, LA : An off-duty Assumption Parish sheriff’s deputy was killed in a crash on Sunday, July 2, 2017

An off-duty Assumption Parish sheriff’s deputy was killed in a crash this evening on La. 304 near Daylily Lane in Choupic, State Police said.
Seth Bourgeois, 21, of Thibodaux, died at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Trooper First Class Jesse LaGrange said in a news release. Troop C in Gray was notified of the crash shortly after 6 p.m.
LaGrange said Bourgeois was driving east in a 1993 Chevrolet Silverado when he crossed the centerline and overcorrected to the right. He then went off the road to the right and hit a ditch.
Bourgeois was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his truck, LaGrange said. Investigators don’t suspect impairment, but routine toxicology tests are pending.
Acadian Ambulance and the Chackbay Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
