A driver speeding down a Milwaukee street with his lights off crashed into a tree late Monday night, seriously injuring himself, Milwaukee police said, adding that alcohol was also a factor.

The victim, a 40-year-old man, was driving north on N. 107th St. at W. Villa Ave. in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix around 11:30 p.m. He didn't have his lights on, and while trying to swerve around another vehicle he lost control and hit the tree, police said in a news release.

The driver was thrown from the vehicle and was taken to a hospital for treatment. No one else was injured in the incident.
