Kilgore,TX : Fleeing biker crashes into mail truck on December, Thursday 14th 2017
A DPS pursuit of a man on a motorbike ended abruptly Thursday afternoon when the fleeing suspect reportedly cut through a downtown parking lot and crashed into the side of a mail carrier’s vehicle on Commerce Street.
Kilgore resident Kolten Kinlaw was injured but not seriously, according to Sgt. Jean Dark of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Transported by ambulance shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, the 27-year-old’s minor injures were soon treated. He was released to DPS and taken to Gregg County Jail where he remained incarcerated Friday on multiple charges stemming from the chase, including a count for drug possession.
Riding a Honda motorcycle, Kinlaw was allegedly speeding on Hwy. 135 Dec. 14, Dark confirmed Friday, and a DPS trooper initiated a traffic stop.
The suspect fled south on 135 and eventually turned onto Gladewater Street, the chase continuing along several nearby roads. Racing over the railroad tracks downtown at the Danville crossing, he reportedly cut-through the parking lot of Kilgore Feed and struck a passing vehicle.
“He failed to stop for the trooper,” Dark confirmed, and after the chase “failed to yield the right-of-way to the U.S. mail truck, which got the better end of him, apparently.”
According to a source on the scene Thursday afternoon, Kinlaw was carrying an unspecified amount of methamphetamine when he was apprehended after the crash.
Booked into Gregg County Jail by the DPS Thursday, Kinlaw faces four charges including evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, possession of between 1 and 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, no drivers license and failure to maintain financial responsibility. Bond had not been set as of press time Friday.
