PLYMOUTH, IN : Rochester man killed, two others injured in crash near Plymouth on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016
One person was killed and two others injured following a four-vehicle crash southeast of Plymouth early Wednesday.
According to a report from the Bremen post of the Indiana State Police, the crash happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. on U.S. 31 at 12th Street.
Troopers said a Volkswagen Beetle traveling east on 12th Street attempted to cross U.S. 31 and pulled into the path of a northbound Saturn car. The collision sent the Beetle into a ditch and left the Saturn disabled in the middle of U.S. 31 where it was struck by two other vehicles.
Rodney Gross, 50, of Rochester, the driver of the Saturn, was taken to Memorial Hospital of South Bend by medical helicopter. His passenger, Raymond Lewis, 56, of Rochester, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Beetle, Robert Brown, 51, of Plymouth, was not injured, troopers said.
Dale Tafelski, 49, of Rochester, the driver of one of the other two cars to strike the Saturn, was taken to Saint Joseph Plymouth Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the third vehicle to strike the Saturn, Lawrence Carrico, 77, of Rochester, was not injured.
Troopers said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
