PHOENIX, AZ : 1 dead, 2 critical in possible DUI crash on I-17 in north Phoenix on Sunday, 7th July 2024

One person has died, and two others are critically hurt in a possible DUI crash on a busy north Phoenix freeway early Sunday morning.

According to the Department of Public Safety, around 1 a.m., troopers were investigating a possible DUI driver who pulled over on northbound I-17 near Northern Avenue. As authorities were working to get the vehicle off the freeway, two different cars collided in the freeway backup.

As troopers were trying to clear the collision, a speeding driver then crashed into the two vehicles that were stopped on the freeway. Authorities confirmed one driver was killed. Two others, including a minor, were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
