Collier County , FL : Naples police officer injured in traffic stop crashafter car ran into the back of his parked cruiser on Monday night ,April 201 2015

A Naples Police officer is recovering after getting hit while making a traffic stop. Police say a car ran into the back of his parked cruiser, which sent it flying into the officer.

Witness Jon Peterson tells us he heard: "A big metal crunch… And then I went and looked out there and I [saw] a squad car smoking and then the front end and rear end were just crushed."

The Naples Police patrol car was totaled but the officer who drives it was lucky he was outside when his car was hit.

"We're incredibly fortunate that Officer Harp wasn't more seriously injured last night," said Naples Police Captain John Barkley.

Officer Ryan Harp was wrapping up a traffic stop about two in the morning Tuesday with his squad car and the person he pulled over in the left hand lane.
