A Missouri man was injured in a single-vehicle wreck in Shelby County Sunday afternoon.
Brendan M. Moore, 21, of Excelsior Springs was injured after he fell asleep at the wheel of his 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt on U.S. Highway 59, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Moore was northbound on the highway at the county line between Pottawattamie and Shelby counties. When he fell asleep the Cobalt drifted onto the shoulder, the state patrol said. Moore awoke and over-corrected, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
The vehicle spun and crossed the median and southbound lanes of Highway 59, then rolled down an embankment, hit a chain-link fence and came to a rest, the state patrol said
Avoca Rescue transported Moore to Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan for treatment. The state patrol said he was wearing a seat belt.
An investigation into the wreck continues, the state patrol said.
