School Bus Destroyed By Fire On I-684 In Goldens Bridge

The bus involved in Friday morning’s fire was a 20-passenger school bus from the Tarrytown School District. The fire appeared to have been caused by a mechanical issue, according to New York State Police. There were no students on the bus at the time of the incident and the driver escaped without injury, said police.

Traffic on Interstate 684 is back to normal.

A small school bus caught fire at about 9 a.m. Friday while traveling south on Interstate 684 near Exit 6 in Goldens Bridge.

The New York State Police and the Goldens Bridge Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call, but the bus was completely destroyed by the blaze.

At 10 a.m., southbound traffic on I-684 was at a standstill for several miles north of Exit 6.

The New York State Department of Transportation advises that Routes 172 and 22 in Bedford will be closed until about 1 p.m. due to an unrelated accident investigation.
