Columbus,NE : A 78-year-old bicyclist was killed struck by a car on April, monday 17th 2017
A 78-year-old bicyclist was killed Monday night when she was struck by a car about a half-mile east of Columbus, Nebraska.
The crash occurred around 8:05 p.m. a half-mile west of East 14th Avenue along East Eighth Street, the Platte County Sheriff's Office said.
A preliminary investigation indicated a westbound 2000 Nissan Maxima, driven by a 16-year-old Columbus boy, struck the rear of a westbound bicycle ridden by Patricia Steiner of Columbus.
Steiner was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said. The teen driver and passengers in the Maxima were not injured, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities did not identify the teen driver and they did not say how many passengers were in the Nissan at the time of the crash.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The accident remains under investigation, authorities said.
