Wailuku, HI : Kihei man found in critical condition after moped crash on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016
Medics took a 34-year-old Kihei man to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition early Saturday morning after he sustained life-threatening injuries when a moped he was riding crashed into a curb on South Kihei Road, police reported.
The man was riding his Sym moped north-bound on the road’s south-bound shoulder shortly before 2 a.m. near South Kihei Road’s intersection with Hoonani Street, police said. The man went into a curb and was ejected from his moped. It did not appear that he was wearing a helmet.
Police were investigating whether alcohol was a possible cause of the crash. They also were checking to see if speeding and drugs were involved.
South Kihei Road was closed between Waiapo and Hoonani streets while police processed the crash scene. Police reopened the road before 5:45 a.m.
