PICKENS, SC : A fatal collision that occurred in Pickens County on Sunday, June 18, 2017
SC Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Pickens County Sunday morning.
Per troopers, the two-vehicle collision occurred on US 123 at SC 124 at 8:18 a.m.
They say a motorcyclist was heading south on US 123 when a box truck and trailer turned left from US 123 onto SC 124. In turn the motorcyclist struck the box truck, was ejected and fatally injured, troopers say.
The motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet, troopers confirm. He was identified by the coroner as 54-year-old James David Oberkirsch of Greenville.
Oberkirsch died of blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead on scene.
Both the driver and passenger in the box truck were not injured.
Troopers say the box truck driver was charged with failure to yield to right of way.
The collision remains under investigation by highway patrol.
