Greensburg ,LA : Boy, 12, killed in utility terrain vehicle crash, driver booked with vehicular homicide on Saturday evening ,July 4th 2015

St. Helena Parish sheriff's deputies say a 12-year-old boy died in a utility terrain vehicle crash that also resulted in the arrest of the vehicle's driver.

Joe Chaney, chief of detectives, tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/1HHn4dA) deputies were called out about 5:15 p.m. Saturday to Calmes Road, where the boy was riding a UTV driven by 36-year-old Joshua Tharpe, who had made a sharp turn on an area of wet sand and flipped the vehicle, killing the boy. Deputies did not release the boy's name.

A UTV is similar to an all-terrain vehicle but typically larger.

Chaney says Tharpe was arrested on a count of vehicular homicide and has since been released on a $100,000 bond.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for Tharpe.
