Greensboro, NC: Motorcycles, Semi Involved In Deadly Guilford County Crash on Friday, July 17th 2015

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says one person died and at least five others were injured in an early Friday morning wreck involving a tractor trailer and six motorcycles.The crash happened on Interstate 85 South in Guilford County near mile marker 121 -- Groometown Road -- at approximately 6:15 a.m.A trooper said six motorcyclists had pulled over to the side of the road for an unknown reason. He said the tractor trailer somehow swerved off the road and ran into them.The tractor trailer stopped on the shoulder approximately a mile farther down the road at mile marker 118 -- just before the Business 85 split.Highway Patrol told WFMY News 2 it is interviewing the tractor trailer driver and another passenger to determine how the crash happened and why the tractor trailer traveled the mile distance before stopping.A trooper at the scene told WFMY News 2 preliminary investigations show the truck driver might have fallen asleep behind the wheel.NC DOT urges drivers to be mindful of continued lane closures around both the crash site and tractor trailer, as crews block off portions of the road to investigate and clear debris.All lanes reopened just before 6pm.
