Woodland, CA : Fatal collision on I-80 on Monday, 26th September 2016
A man has died and a woman has sustained major injuries after their vehicle was involved in three collisions early Monday morning on Interstate-80, east of Webster Road near West Sacramento.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Pedro Leon, a 2015 Ford Fusion became disabled in the far right lane being involved in a minor, non-injury accident around 2:45 a.m. While unable to move, the Ford was hit by a big rig traveling in the same lane, sending the smaller vehicle into the middle lane where it remained disabled.
The big rig pulled over into the right shoulder. A third collision occurred when a Toyota Prius, traveling in the middle lane, hit the Ford again. This sent the Ford into the center median and the Toyota toward the right shoulder.
Sometime after the first collision, the driver and passenger of the Ford walked off the freeway for safety. But while standing in the right shoulder, the couple were hit by an unknown vehicle, the force of which hurled them over the side of the elevated portion of the causeway.
The deceased driver of the Ford, a 36-year-old man, has not yet been identified by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office. His passenger, Lethesia Guzman, 27, of San Jose sustained major injuries and is being treated at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
