Authorities say a Georgia man died after running into a fire truck that was parked in a road while firefighters responded to a wreck in Augusta.

Richmond County Coroner says 38-year-old Ted R. Collins Jr. of Augusta died in the crash, which happened Tuesday afternoon.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that a fire engine from the Augusta Fire Department was stopped in a road so firefighters could work a wreck when a car slammed into the rear of the truck. The coroner says emergency lights on the fire truck were flashing at the time.

Collins died instantly and had to be extricated from the vehicle after the wreck.
