Poughkeepsie, NY : Two children dies in head-on crash with truck on Route 44 near the Town of Washington on Saturday, December 5, 2015

Police say the driver of a car carrying two children has died in a head-on crash with a dump truck on a New York highway.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at about 9 a.m. Saturday on Route 44 near the Town of Washington.

Police say it appears the car drifted over into the opposite lane before it was struck by the truck carrying a load of gravel.

The driver died at the scene. The children were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

The victims' names were withheld pending family notification.
