Melville, NY : Two vehicles collided on Monday, June 26, 2017

Two vehicles collided Monday night in Huntington, and one driver had to be cut out of his car before being rushed to the hospital in serious condition, a fire official said.
The wreckage ended up in the middle of West Shore Road, and police are investigating what happened, said Huntington Fire Department Chief Jesse Cukro. About 30 firefighters and the Huntington Community First Aid Squad responded to help both drivers, who were taken to Huntington Hospital, he said.
Suffolk police said the crash happened just before 7 p.m. near Creek Road and involved a northbound 2014 BMW and a southbound 1998 Mitsubishi that collided head-on. Resident Jeanie Dempsey said she heard squealing brakes and a loud bang on a roadway where drivers frequently speed and crash.
“Oh my God, this isn’t happening again,” Dempsey said she thought as she rushed out of her house. “You’re afraid to look up to the car because your heart is racing and you don’t want to find body parts everywhere or children.”
She said a black car going south was crushed after hitting a northbound white sport utility vehicle head on. About 400 feet of tire tracks from the black car could be seen going from the southbound lane to the northbound one, Dempsey said.As she watched, she heard the black vehicle’s driver say, “ ‘I was trying to go to the UPS store.’ ” A nearby UPS store closes at 7 p.m., according to the company’s website.
The other driver appeared dazed as she got out of her SUV, but did not seem to be seriously injured as she spoke to police, Dempsey said: “I heard the woman say ‘What happened to me? He swerved and hit me.’ ”
She said residents have been trying for years to get speed bumps and other measures to prevent crashes along West Shore Road.
Police said other details of the crash were not immediately available.
