Orange Park, FL : Man dies in 3-vehicle crash on U.S. 17 in Clay County on Tuesday evening, March 1, 2016

A man is dead after a three-vehicle accident in Clay County on Tuesday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the accident happened on U.S. 17 and Eagle Harbor Parkway around 7:24 p.m.

FHP said a husband and wife were leaving their subdivision, located right off of U.S. 17. As the couple was leaving the subdivision in their SUV, they made it across the southbound lane safely, but when the SUV tried turning with the northbound traffic, the SUV was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

That vehicle was driven by another couple. Their car hit the SUV and caused the SUV to flip. As the SUV was flipping, the SUV hit another car driven by a teenager in the southbound lane.

The man in the SUV, Clemente Ainza, 79, has passed away. Another person in the accident was transported to the hospital, but it’s unknown who that person is.

Only one southbound lane on U.S. 17 was open while troopers investigated.
