Waterloo, IA : Motorcyclist seriously injured after colliding with a car near Lafayette Park on Saturday, April 16, 2016

A motorcyclist was seriously injured Saturday after colliding with a car near Lafayette Park.

Officials said the male rider was taken to the hospital by ambulance with significant injuries after the accident at around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Lafayette Street and Linden Avenue.

Witnesses said the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Lafayette at a high rate of speed and passed vehicles by using the center turning lane. A Ford Contour sedan was eastbound on Lafayette and turned left onto Linden when the collision occurred.

The motorcycle knocked over a street sign and landed against the steps of a home at 1829 Lafayette. The rider came to rest 80 to 90 feet from the intersection.

A woman driving the car was alert and taken by ambulance with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. Police had blocked off Lafayette at the intersection and taped off the accident scene.

Names of those injured were not immediately available.
