SARASOTA COUNTY, FL : Man killed in two-car crash on Tuesday, February 7th 2017

A Sarasota man died after a two-car crash Tuesday morning on University Parkway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to FHP, Mark Obrien, 61, was driving a Toyota Corolla east in the center lane on University Parkway approaching Honore Avenue at about 8 a.m. when he failed to slow for another Corolla driven by Michael Roger Bakken, 50, also of Sarasota.

The front of Obrien's car collided with the rear of Bakken's car, FHP said.

Obrien, who was wearing a seatbelt, was fatally injured. Bakken, who was wearing a seatbelt, received minor injuries. A 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in Bakken's car and was wearing a seatbelt was not hurt.

The crash is under investigation.
