Toddler dies after being struck by vehicle
A 3-year old girl was struck and killed by an SUV while crossing a Queens street with her grandmother Sunday, witnesses and cops said.Little Allison Liao, 3, was walking in a crosswalk at Main Street and Cherry Avenue in Flushing when a black Nissan Murano SUV making a left turn on a green light onto Main Street hit her, cops said.
“I saw the grandmother carrying the little child, she was screaming and shaking her,” said witness Rachel Hwang, 21, who came out of her father’s store when she heard the accident. “[The child] wasn’t moving.”Rick Hall, 34, a 10-year veteran of the Army, heard the grandmother’s screams and rushed over from an Indian market across the street and tried to revive the girl by performing CPR.
“I started doing CPR and mouth to mouth compressions,” said Hall, who finished his last tour of Iraq in 2009. “She did exhale twice, she kind of jolted. I don’t know if that was life.”Liao was rushed to New York Hospital Queens where she was declared dead, cops said.“Her grandmother was holding her in her arms and crying, said Hall.” I just feel really bad for the family.”The driver remained on the scene and witnesses said he was one of the first people to call 911.“He was screaming on the phone telling the ambulance to come faster,” said Hwang.Liao was rushed to New York Hospital Queens where she was declared dead, cops said.
