Columbia County , FL : 2- Years old was Injured after Car Collided with another Car along interstate 75 on Saturday Morning , December 13th 2014
A 2-year-old boy from Tennessee who was not wearing a child restraint was rushed to UF Health Shands Hospital in critical condition early Saturday morning after the car he was a passenger in collided with another car on Interstate 75 in Columbia County and ended up striking a tree on the side of the interstate, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said a 2015 Kia Forte being driven by Morgan B. Lewis, 23, of Memphis Tennessee, was heading northbound on I-75 near mile marker 425 just before 6:30 a.m. Saturday when Lewis came upon a slower-moving 2005 Honda Accord driven by Roke W. Almedia, 55, of Clarksville, Tennessee. Troopers said Lewis changed lanes erratically and struck the rear of a 2003 Ford F150 pickup being driven by James H. Markowski, 66, of North Fort Myers.
According to FHP, the collision caused the pickup to rotate and overturn, while the Accord took evasive action to avoid colliding with the pickup and ended up striking a guard rail. Meantime, the Kia careened into a ditch on the west side of I-75 and struck a tree with its right front.
Morgan was wearing a seat belt and was transported to Lake City Medical Center with no apparent injuries as a precaution. Her passenger, 2-year-old Nicholas Lewis, also of Memphis, was critically injured.
