Omaha, NE : Two injured, one ticketed in rush hour crash on West Maple Road on Monday, March 27, 2017
Two people were injured Monday when a car, which had been speeding and weaving through rush hour traffic on West Maple Road, collided with a Jeep.
Jorge A. Moctezuma, 19, of Omaha, who was driving the speeding car, suffered a “relatively minor” fractured vertebrae, said Police Sgt. Chuck Casey, a traffic investigator.
Alicia A. Brown, 21, also of Omaha, suffered a hematoma to her forehead, Casey said. She was driving the Jeep.
Both were taken by ambulance to Nebraska Medical Center and were expected to survive.
The crash was reported at 5:22 p.m. at West Maple and Emmet Street, just north of Hefflinger Park.
Moctezuma had been speeding and weaving among vehicles as he traveled west on West Maple in a purple 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, Casey said.
The front of his Cobalt collided with the rear passenger side of the silver 2003 Jeep Liberty that Brown was driving. The Jeep was having mechanical problems, and Brown was turning left from eastbound West Maple onto Emmet, the sergeant said.
The collision’s impact forced the rear axle assembly, with the tires, off the Jeep and into the front end of a 2013 Nissan Sentra that had been stopped on Emmet at a red traffic signal, Casey said. No injuries were reported for the Sentra’s driver, Michael M. Bierman, 34, of Blair.
Moctezuma was ticketed on suspicion of reckless driving.
