Melbourne, FL : Woman struck and killed by vehicle at 1981 N. Wickham Road on Wednesday night, April 15, 2015

A woman was killed Wednesday night after she was struck by an SUV while trying to cross a street in Melbourne.

It happened just after 8 p.m. at 1981 N. Wickham Road.
The Melbourne Police Department said the driver swerved to avoid hitting the woman but she was struck by the front-right corner of the SUV.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
