Canton,OH : Second crash victim dies, police continue to investigate on November, Saturday 25th 2017

Police continue to investigate a two-vehicle crash earlier this month that claimed the lives of a husband and wife.

Antonio “Tony” Ionno, 69, of Brewster, died Saturday at Community Hospice’s Truman House in New Philadelphia. Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office said Ionno died from injuries sustained in a Nov. 14 crash in Jackson Township.

Ionno’s wife, Susan Grillon-Ionno, 60, of Brewster, died the day of the crash. Antonio Ionno was a passenger in the car.

Jackson Township police said Susan Grillion-Ionno was driving a Chevrolet Sonic north on Frank Avenue near Quail Hill Street NW when a Toyota RAV4, driven by Ralph Keeton 63, of Jackson Township, went left of center and struck the Sonic head on just after 9:30 a.m.

Crews from Jackson and Green fire departments had to use cutting tools to extract the victims from the vehicles.

Jackson Township Major Ty Bissler said Wednesday investigators are looking at surveillance video from Stark State that authorities recently received. It was unclear if the camera captured the accident, he said.

Keeton, he said, is expected to recover from his injuries and was being transferred to a rehabilitation center.

Once the investigation is complete, officials will review the case with the Stark County prosecutor to determine if charges will be filed.

According to Ionno’s obituary, he and Susan had been married for 27 years.

Born in Italy, Ionno immigrated to the United States in 1966 and became a citizen in 1971. He worked as a truck driver for Superior Tank and Trailer of Beach City and as a carpenter and mechanic, the obituary said.

Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover. The service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturdayat St. Joseph Church, 613 N. Tuscarawas Ave., Dover.
