Shawnee County, KS : One dead, one injured following crash on I-70 on Friday, 3rd January, 2020
One person is dead and another is seriously injured following a one-vehicle crash Friday evening in Shawnee County.
According to Kansas Highway Patrol, a vehicle was heading east on Interstate 70 around 6:30 p.m. Friday when it left the roadway and drove into the median. The vehicle then went airborne across a creek, striking the east embankment of the creek and a bridge pillar.
The wreck occurred near mile marker 351 on I-70, about 1.6 miles west of S.W. Auburn Road, according to the highway patrol crash log.
Carlos Colon-Medina, 29, of Topeka, was killed in the wreck. His next-of-kin have been notified.
The driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Michael McElheny, of Perry, was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital with serious injuries.
