PANAMA CITY, FL : Vehicle in crash might have been stolen on Monday, November, 6th 2017
Police said they believe a man who was seriously injured in a single-car crash on Ninth Street on Monday might have been driving a stolen car.
Lt. John Morris with the Panama City Police Department said the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed down Sherman Avenue toward Ninth Street. While trying to negotiate the turn, the gray sedan struck a tree, Morris said.
Rather than stay put, Morris said the driver kept going, reversing and speeding down Ninth Street until he struck a parked Gulf Power utility truck and losing control. The impact trapped the driver in the car and firefighters had to free him. Morris said the driver’s injuries were life-threatening.
The crash happened about 1:40 p.m., with PCPD, Bay County Sheriff’s Office and the Panama City Fire Department responding. The scene spanned several blocks, shutting down Ninth Street from Sherman Avenue to Bay Avenue for several hours as investigators cataloged debris scattered across the roadway.
