Northbound I-35 is closed at Mulhall Road in Payne County after a tanker truck caught on fire.

Authorities say the fire was caused by a tanker truck and another semi-truck colliding with each other.

The driver of the tanker truck was killed in the crash, according to the highway patrol. The driver was identified as Dwight Handley, 62, of Belle Plaine, Kansas.

A passerby who stopped to help was hit by debris and also injured in the crash, according to the highway patrol. That person was flown to an Oklahoma City hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital in Stillwater with minor injuries.

The tanker was part of the United Petroleum Transports Fleet. UPT said the tanker was empty after having just delivered ethanol. It appears, according to the company, that ethanol fumes are what ignited.
