Washington, PA : A man was killed and his 16-year-old passenger was injured in a two-vehicle crash on April, Thursday 20th 2017

A man was killed and his 16-year-old passenger was injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 79 in Amwell Township.

Gary Paul Visser, 53, of Hanover, was killed when the Volkswagen Golf he was driving collided with a Peterbilt Cargo Tank Trailer truck driven by 57-year-old Paul Darnell Farmer Jr., of Steubenville, Ohio, in a northbound lane of Interstate 79 just south of the Marianna exit, according to a Pennsylvania State Police news release.

Visser lost control of his vehicle when he hit a patch of wet road and began to hydroplane, police said. He struck the guardrail on the left side of I-79 before traveling back through the northbound lane and colliding with Farmer, police said.

Visser was thrown from the car into the median and was pronounced dead when an ambulance arrived, police said.

Southwest EMS transported Visser’s passenger to Washington Hospital, said Chaz McVay, assistant chief with Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department.

McVay said the driver of the truck was uninjured.

The gray Volkswagen sustained damage in its front and back.

The tractor-trailer stopped on the shoulder a few hundred yards north of the crash.

I-79 north was closed at the Ruff Creek exit and traffic was rerouted onto Route 19 while officials worked at the scene.
