Bridport, VT : Shoreham man killed in a fatal car crash on Route 125 in Bridport on Wednesday, January 20, 2016

A 66-year-old Shoreham man was killed and two people were injured in a crash Wednesday on Route 125 in Bridport, police said.

Thomas L. Scheufler died after the 2004 Pontiac Vibe he was driving was hit head-on around 3:20 p.m. by a 2014 Toyota Rav4 driven by Shelby E. Fernandez, 21, of Ticonderoga, New York, according to Vermont State Police.

Scheufler died at the scene. Deborah Hawkins, 66, of Shoreham was taken to Porter Medical Center for rib pain and was released later. Fernandez was treated for knee pain and released.

Fernandez was driving west on Route 125 near West Market Road and crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting Scheufler’s car, police said. Both vehicles had extensive front-end damage.

Route 125 was closed for more than six hours.

Police are investigating the crash.
