Thomasville, GA : 31-year-old Camilla woman died after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 19 North near Stage Road on Thursday, May 26, 2016

Tire failure is believed to be the cause of a Thursday two-vehicle crash in which a 31-year-old Camilla woman died, authorities said.

The victim, Shauntrice Shamia Jones, was traveling north on U.S. 19 North near Stage Road, driving a 2012 Toyota Camry, about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Lennoris Jackson, 28, Thomasville, was headed south, driving a 2000 Ford pickup.

“According to the preliminary report, the left front tire of the pickup failed,” said Sgt. First Class Tommy Peeples, Thomasville Post 12 Georgia State Patrol commander. “That caused the driver to lose control, and the vehicle traveled across the median, where impact was made with the Toyota.”

After impact, both vehicles came to an uncontrolled, final rest at the point of impact.

Jones died at the scene, according to authorities.

Jackson was transported by the Thomas County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) to Archbold Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the commander said.

Both drivers were restrained by lap and shoulder belts.

Peeples said the Toyota’s airbag deployed. Jones, who was trapped, was extracated by EMS.
