Officer injured in motorcycle crash on Warwick Boulevard

A Newport News police officer was rushed to the hospital Thursday morning after being involved in a motorcycle accident, a spokeswoman said.

The crash occurred at about 7:25 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Warwick Boulevard near Export Circle, Newport News Police Department spokeswoman Holly McPherson said.

A white Kia Sedona van was traveling southbound on Warwick Boulevard when the driver made a left turn onto Export Circle, McPherson said. The officer who was traveling northbound on Warwick Boulevard collided with the rear passenger side of the van.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, McPherson said. The van's driver was examined by paramedics at the scene, but McPherson said she did not know if driver was taken to the hospital.
