Ridgeway, SC : SCDPS seeks tips after elderly man dies in Fairfield Co. hit and run crash on Wednesday morning, December 24, 2014

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a Christmas Eve hit-and-run death that took place in the parking lot of a gas station in Fairfield County.

The patrol tells local media outlets that a 55-year-old man was struck and killed Wednesday morning at a gas station near Ridgeway north of Columbia.

Investigators say the man may have been killed when he was unknowingly struck by the driver of a tractor-trailer truck that was hauling wood chips.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
