Spartanburg, SC : No injuries after 18-wheeler crash on Interstate 26 west in Spartanburg County on Tuesday morning, August 30, 2016

Interstate 26 west in Spartanburg County was blocked after a crash involving a vehicle on the Fairforest Road overpass and an 18-wheeler on the interstate below Tuesday morning, according to emergency dispatchers.

Troopers said the crash happened near mile marker 19 around 11:15 a.m., 1.3 miles North of Spartanburg.

Witnesses said a car on the bridge hit a guard rail and sent parts of the guard rail onto the interstate, which led to another collision involving an 18-wheeler that overturned.

Troopers said debris from the bridge also fell onto one eastbound lanes, which crews temporarily blocked off. Eastbound lanes have since reopened.

Fairforest Road is closed in both directions due to the damage on the bridge, dispatchers said. Emergency crews are diverting traffic onto US 29, dispatchers said.

The left lane on I-26 westbound has reopened, but the right lane remains closed while crews work to move the overturned tractor-trailer.

Troopers are asking drivers to avoid the area if possible.

According to troopers, the tractor trailer driver was a 42-year-old man from Augusta. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident and was injured and partially entrapped, troopers said. He was extracted from the vehicle, non-mechanically, and transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

The other driver was a 33-year-old woman from Inman, troopers said. She was reportedly wearing a seat belt and not injured.

The driver of the tractor trailer was driving West behind the car when the car slowed down to miss the debris in the road and the tractor trailer hit the car in the rear then over corrected and overturned, according to the report.

According to the report, the driver of the tractor trailer has been charged with driving too fast for conditions.
