THE VILLAGES, FL : Wildwood man, 83, killed in SR 44 crash in Sumter County on Thursday, 22nd August 2019

A Wildwood man was killed Thursday morning after pulling out in front of a semi, authorities say.

According to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Gaskins, the crash occurred around 8:10 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 44 and County Road 44A. Wayne Alexander Drury, 83, attempted to make a left-hand turn from CR 44A in front of a big rig driven by David Caride, 72, of Riverview. Caride was traveling west on SR 44 when his truck slammed into the left side of Drury’s pickup, causing it to overturn.

Drury, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he died. Caride was treated for minor injuries.
