Two people are dead and a suspected drunk driver is in custody following a vehicle collision in Sparks.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 10 p.m. Saturday in the area of Pyramid Way and Disc Drive.

Officials say a Honda was either slowing down or stopped when it was rear-ended.

The NHP says the two occupants of the Honda died from their injuries at a hospital.

Their identities were not released.

The suspected driver of the other vehicle, 35-year-old Mario Cortez, is accused of fleeing the scene on foot.

He was located and treated at a hospital.

Cortez has since been booked into jail on charges of DUI resulting in death and hit-and-run along with other misdemeanors.

It was not known Sunday if he had an attorney.
