Fort Myers, FL : 11-year-old bicyclist dies in crash on Sunday, November 27th 2016
A 11-year-old bicyclist from North Fort Myers died after being hit on a dark road Sunday night, Lee County Sheriff's Office reports.
Deputies said Nathan Carroll was hit on Slater Road by his home on Golden Road about 6:30 p.m.
The sheriff's office said a 2006 Ford driven by Gwendolyn A. Mackey, of North Fort Myers, was heading east, as was Nathan. Nathan's bike did not have any lights or reflectors, and the road is without street lights.
Mackey saw Nathan too late, and her auto struck the bicyclist with the right front corner panel, deputies said.
Nathan, who wasn't wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bicycle. He was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Deputies said Nathan violated the right of way.
