1 killed in crash on Interstate 80 in Nebraska

One person is dead following a crash on Interstate 80 Wednesday night that caused westbound traffic to be diverted from the Wood River exit to Shelton, according to the Hall County Sheriff's Office.Jennifer Jones, 39, of Torrington, Wyo. was pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were taken to the hospital, one in critical condition.Hall County officials say the incident occurred Wednesday evening when a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica was forced into the median by a semi tractor/trailer that had veered into the passing lane.The Chrysler, driven by 26-year-old Karisa Bennett, of Torrington, Wyo. crossed the median and was struck by another semi tractor/trailer traveling down the westbound lanes. Officials say the semi's driver, Ivan Asimionese made every effort to avoid the accident.Asimionese was not injured in the accident. Officials say he was wearing his seatbelt.Bennett and Sarah Hatch, also of Torrington, Wyo. were in the Chrysler's front seat and were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle's third survivor, Larrah Gurnsey, of Scottsbluff, was riding in the backseat and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.Officials say all of the Chrysler's occupants were wearing seatbelts.The Hall County Sheriff's Department is still looking for the driver of the semi tractor/trailer that originally veered into the passing lane, but do not believe speed or alcohol were a factor in the accident.
