Parsons, KS : Teen dies in wreck north of Dennis early Saturday morning, March 4, 2017

Two Thayer teenagers were life-flighted with injuries and an Independence teen died in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday morning in southern Neosho County.
All three were students at Cherryvale High School. Nickolas Gofourth, 16, Independence was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to Kansas City for autopsy. Michael Killough, 17, and Pete Rehmert, 18, both of Thayer, were both transported by helicopter after being taken by ambulance to Labette Health in Parsons. Two of the teens were thrown from the 1997 Chevrolet pickup when it overturned.
The accident happened 2 ½ miles north of Dennis on 10th Road near Gray Road and was reported to the Kansas Highway Patrol at 3:48 a.m. Saturday.
According to the KHP accident report, Gofourth was driving eastbound on 10th when the pickup went off the roadway into the westbound ditch. It hit a tree at the driver’s side door and flipped, coming to rest on its cab facing northwest. Gofourth and Killough were ejected. None were wearing seat belts.
Cherryvale Middle-High School Principal Scott Lambdin said three grief counselors from Southeast Kansas Education Service Center, Greenbush, were meeting privately with students Monday in the school library.
Rehmert was released from the hospital in Joplin and Killough remains hospitalized in Kansas City.
