Mendenhall, MS : 7-year-old Mariyah Kemper died after a crash in Simpson County on Monday, June 13, 2016

Simpson County Sheriff's Office says 7-year-old Mariyah Kemper was run over by her mother, Maria Carr in Simpson County, Monday.

The 7-year-old died after her mother backed over her in an SUV in her driveway.

Sheriff Donald O'Cain, of the Simpson County Sheriff's Office, told the Associated Press that around 7 pm on Monday, Carr ran over Kemper when the girl ran behind an SUV, as it was backing out of a driveway on Scarborough Road in Harrisville.

Kemper was airlifted to UMMC and pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officials say Carr did not realize that her daughter was outside and she ran behind the car as it was moving.

Simpson County deputies are calling the death a tragic accident.

The accident is still under investigation.
