SARASOTA COUNTY, FL : Fiery crash tears car in half, FHP says on Monday, November 14th 2016
A man was seriously injured in a fiery crash this morning that tore his car in two, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
According to an FHP news release, Johan Fernando, 27, of Sarasota was driving a Honda Accord south on Tuttle Avenue approaching the roundabout with Siesta Drive at about 3 a.m. Multiple independent witnesses say Fernando was traveling extremely fast as he attempted to navigate a right curve at the entrance to the roundabout, FHP reports. The vehicle failed to successfully make the turn and left the roadway, where it struck a large tree and was broken in half.
Fernando, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected through the driver's side door. The front portion of the Honda then caught on fire.
Fernando, who was cited with failing to stay in a single lane, was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, FHP says.
