Bemidji, MN : Two teens killed when their vehicle and semi collided on an icy U.S. 71 south of Bemidji on Wednesday night, January 20, 2016

A 16-year-old Bemidji girl and a 16-year-old Laporte boy were killed when their vehicle and a semitrailer truck collided on an icy U.S. 71 south of Bemidji on Wednesday night.

The teens were headed south on the highway at about 6:30 p.m. when the driver of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt lost control and veered into the northbound lane, where the car was hit broadside by an oncoming semi, the Minnesota State Patrol reported. It had not been determined which of the teens was driving.

Both teenagers were killed in the crash. Their names have not been released.

The driver of the truck, a 53-year-old man from Park Rapids, was seriously injured and taken to the Bemidji hospital.
