Accomack County, IL : 5-month-old ejected from vehicle in Va. crash on Saturday, 24th August 2019
As a vehicle ran off the road and into a ditch Saturday, police say it struck a culvert — ejecting a 5-month-old child from the car.
Virginia State Police are investigating the crash that occurred in Accomack County on Route 13, Lankford Highway, north of Merry Cat Lane, around 8 a.m.
The driver, Quanisha Bennett, crashed her Honda Pilot as she ran off the road traveling south and "overcorrected," according to police, heading instead right into the ditch and ultimately causing the vehicle to overturn as the infant was thrown from the car.
Police say the child, Ronald J. Bennett III, was not in a child safety seat.
Flown to a hospital in Norfolk, the infant later died of injuries sustained in the crash, according to police.
Police say the driver, and three other passengers were taken to Riverside Shore Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.
Speed and alcohol were not contributing factors to the crash, according to police. The incident is still under investigation.
