Deville, LA : Off-duty Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office deputy died in a vehicle crash in the Deville area on Tuesday night, Oct 6, 2015
An off-duty Rapides Parish Sheriff's deputy was killed after his truck collided with a car whose driver failed to stop at a stop sign in the Deville area.
Louisiana State Police say 32-year-old Tony D. Verheyden, of Deville, was killed about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday.
The Town Talk reports Verheyden, who's married with two children, served with the sheriff's office since January 2013 after previously serving as a reserve deputy from 2006-2010.
Authorities say Verheyden's truck collided with a westbound car driven by a 16-year-old boy. The crash caused the car to leave the road and hit a house.
Verheyden, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected; the teenager and his passenger, a 16-year-old girl, were both wearing seatbelts and each suffered moderate injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
